Network Analyst II - Information Services
This position in the Information Services Department is responsible for designing, building, maintaining Microsoft server-based equipment that includes web-enabled services, clustered databases and application servers. This involves advanced capabilities in network design and implementation of network operating systems on various hardware platforms within the AFSCME network at headquarters and field locations. This position reports to the Manager of Network & Operations and indirectly to the Department Director.
DUTIES: Monitor, test, and evaluate performance of the Enterprise network and servers. Coordinate work with vendors and other internal staff to implement various projects. Troubleshoot problems both internally and externally from remote sites. Provide technical support to the IS Network, PC support and application support groups. Install varied operating systems and their associated software tools for maintenance and monitoring the network components. Setup and install hardware components associated with switches, network and servers. Use monitoring tools for performance evaluation and troubleshooting. Manage multiple priorities to adapt quickly to changes in requirements. Mentor, coordinate, and support junior network staff. Suggest ways to improve department's procedures and standards based on process analysis and results evaluation, and information gained from external sources. Keep current on emerging technologies via professional organizations, technical or functional reference manuals and magazines, and other external sources, and advises and makes recommendations to IS management/staff. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a technical degree (preferably in Computer Science) or attended a technical institution with Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) certification, five (5) to seven (7) years of direct experience in Microsoft networks or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities: JBOSS, IIS, Apache, Tomcat, Web Logic, MS Server software All Versions. Extensive expertise in configuration, usage, and support of the Active Directory 2003, Exchange 2003, SharePoint 3.0, SQL 2005 & 2000, MS Office 2003 & 2007, and other related software. Ability to install and maintain Microsoft single and clustered servers. Experience utilizing Firewall and VPN technologies such as Cyber Guard. Experience installing and maintaining Veritas Enterprise backup systems. Ability to setup web farms in a clustered MS environment. Experience with TCP/IP network design, DHCP, DNS. MCSE is required. Ability to maintain and install SAN and NAS systems, Raid, and IBM, HP, Compaq servers. Must have a demonstrated ability to work with project planning tools such as MS Project to develop and execute projects utilizing outside contractors and internal staff to accomplish projects within given budgets and timelines. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Evening and weekend assignments may be necessary along with emergency access in the event of a system failure. Some travel may be required. A valid driver’s license is required.
