Location, Location, Location
Another factor that affects salaries and wages is location. The following charts also draw from data collected for the 1993 National Summary of Average Pay by Type for selected jurisdictions and job categories.6 They show that while public workers tend to earn similar salaries to private workers within a given city, wage rates do vary from city to city. Thus, workers in San Diego, public and private, tend to earn more than workers, public and private, in Kansas City.
