Join the Congressional Correctional Officers Caucus
January 30, 2007
Dear Representative:
On behalf of the 1.4 million members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and the over 80,000 corrections personnel that we represent, I would like to urge you to join the Congressional Correctional Officers Caucus.
Corrections personnel are dedicated public servants who supervise the most dangerous members of our society and they come in harm's way every day. They play a vital role in making sure the public is safeguarded from criminal activity. They deserve a strong voice in Congress. Our members know that the Caucus will preserve and protect the rights of corrections personnel and look out for their safety and well-being.
The Congressional Correctional Officers Caucus was founded as a bipartisan working group during the 106th Congress and has been active in addressing many of the issues important to corrections officers. AFSCME and our members offer our assistance in any matter that the Caucus deems important for corrections personnel. We represent members in over 30 states and we have our own leadership committee, AFSCME Corrections United (ACU) that meets regularly to determine the course of corrections legislation and works toward improving the health and safety of those who work in corrections facilities across the nation.
Representative Tim Holden is leading the effort to build support for the Caucus and if you have any questions about the work of the Caucus or would like to join, please contact Jake Kuhns at 202-225-5546. We hope that you will join in our effort to assist our nation's corrections officers through the work of the Congressional Correctional Officers Caucus.
Sincerely, Charles M. Loveless Director of Legislation
